Following the character’s return at the end of Fast X, it’s been revealed that Luke Hobbs will be coming back to the Fast and Furious franchise for his own spinoff, following the police officer’s conflict with criminal mastermind Dante Reyes. After a period of absence from the series due to behind-the-scenes conflicts with lead actor Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson’s return was completely unexpected and took plenty of Fast and Furious fans by surprise. It’s unclear whether The Rock will be returning to the main saga any time soon, but he’s revealed that Luke Hobbs will be seen again in his own spinoff project.
Hobbs also appeared in another Fast and Furious spinoff in Hobbs and Shaw, but this upcoming movie is said to be separate from that story too. It’s unclear exactly what the story is going to be about, though Fast X’s post-credits sequence suggests that Dante Reyes has Hobbs in his sights. The Fast and Furious series has always been about family and friendship, and while this spinoff is said to be distinctly separated from the main saga, audiences can probably expect to see plenty of beloved characters crossing over between stories and helping out their friend in his newest adventure.
10.Dante Reyes
Given the basic premise of the project, Dante Reyes is one of the few characters that can be guaranteed to make an appearance. Jason Mamoa has been confirmed as part of the Hobbs spinoff’s cast, proving that his villainous character will play a large role in the story and probably give Hobbs the same treatment that he gave to Toretto in Fast X, seeking revenge for his father’s murder. Hobbs was actually the one to pull the trigger on Dante’s father in Fast Five, so their feud is going to be much more personal and intense.
9.Gisele Yashar
The return of Gisele Yashar at the end of Fast X was another huge shock that took Fast and Furious fans by surprise, as her character was presumed dead after seemingly falling from a flying plane at the end of Fast and Furious 6. It’s unclear exactly how Gisele managed to survive this accident without any lasting injuries, but that’s something that Hobbs’ spinoff could explain if she decides to help him in his fight against Dante. She’s one of the officer’s few remaining friends that’s known to be alive and well, so her inclusion in the story is among the most likely.
8.Deckard Shaw
Although Johnson has confirmed that his upcoming project isn’t related to Hobbs & Shaw, it would be a huge shame if Deckard Shaw wasn’t involved somehow. The pair have an excellent on-screen chemistry that’s led to several hilarious moments throughout the franchise, and despite brief absences from both actors, they’ve both returned now at the perfect time to share the screen again. Following Shaw’s appearance in Fast X, it also makes sense that he’d want to help Hobbs take down Dante since the latter put his mother’s life in danger.
7.Hattie Shaw
6.Monica Fuentes
5.Cipher
The character of Cipher has always been an interesting one, first appearing as the primary villain in The Fate of the Furious before serving as an ally to Dominic Toretto and his team after Dante Reyes attempted to murder her. She’s brought a completely new dimension to the last few movies, with the audience constantly unaware of exactly whose side she’s on. She would definitely be an interesting addition to the Hobbs spinoff, particularly since the characters have such distinct personalities that would likely clash over their methods and strategies. She claimed that the enemy of her enemy is her friend, and Hobbs certainly seems to be Dante’s newest enemy.
4.Mr. Nobody
Despite playing a large role in movies such as Furious 7, the fate of Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody still remains a mystery. He was presumed dead after his plane went down at the hands of Jakob Toretto in F9, but the Fast and Furious series has tricked audiences with fake-out deaths enough times to cast some suspicion on that fact. It’s possible that Mr. Nobody is still out there somebody, living a quieter life and staying away from trouble. Mr. Nobody previously faked Han’s death to protect him from Deckard Shaw, so he clearly knows how to do it – and he’d be among the first to come and help Hobbs.
3.Queenie Shaw
Queenie Shaw first appeared in The Fate of the Furious and quickly became a fan-favorite character thanks to her signature sarcasm and larger-than-life attitude. The character also appeared in Hobbs & Shaw, so if Deckard is somehow involved in the upcoming Hobbs spinoff, it stands to reason that his mother would make an appearance too – particularly since he left to protect her at the end of Fast X. She would bring a much-needed sense of comedy to the project that could play brilliantly off Johnson and Statham’s chemistry.
2.Owen Shaw
It wouldn’t be right to bring the Shaw family back together without including Owen, who was the main antagonist of Fast and Furious6 before teaming up with Dom and his friends in The Fate of the Furious on his mother’s orders. The main franchise is clearly trying to drift away from the Shaw brothers as the overarching villains, as they were in the sixth and seventh installments, but the Hobbs spinoff would be a great place to make them important again and give them a more suitable story.
1.Dominic Toretto
Dominic Toretto coming to Luke Hobbs’ aid in the upcoming spinoff would be an extremely touching moment for several reasons – not only have the characters been through several conflicts together over the course of the franchise, but it would also give the two actors an opportunity to prove (on a somewhat meta level) that the Vin Diesel/Dwayne Johnson feud is actually over and they can work together again. Toretto knows exactly how it feels to be targeted by Dante, so he’d be the first person to rush and help Hobbs when he finds himself in the same position – as soon as he gets out of that difficult Fast X cliffhanger.
