Maximiliano Levy, president of a second division team in Argentina, lashed out against the proposed mascot of his club

Maximiliano Levy is the president of Almirante Brown of Isidro Casanova, a neighborhood of Buenos Aires, which participates in the country’s Second Division and currently leads one of the two zones that make up the competition.

Levy, who before becoming president of the club was a popular ultra of Boca Juniors, is a controversial businessman.

In fact, when he won the club elections he was banned from accessing stadiums by an order of the Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport of the Government of Argentina.

But now Levy, who has a great friendship with ‘Chiqui’ Tapia, president of the AFA, has gone viral after hitting out at members of his club and Lionel Messi.

Well, not Messi the player, but a lookalike that Almirante Brown fans want to implement as the new mascot.

It will all go down on Saturday, July 30, when the team welcomes Alvarado to its stadium.

Poor reception from fans

Despite the excitement from part of the club’s supporters, the large-scale ‘Messi’ hasn’t been well received by the majority of fans or even its president.

“I don’t know who brought the dummy, nor who goes inside the dummy,” said Levy.

“Honestly, I would set the dummy on fire. I’m going to inflate the sleeve (where the players would enter) and I’m going to take the trouble to write down all the names to see if they are members and are up to date.

“To be a member is to help the club.”

Levy is angry because money was raised, with 750 members providing 3 million pesos (US$5,600) to make it.

He believes it was unnecessary because the money could have been used for other purposes.
