Odell Beckham Jr., the notable NFL wide receiver, has opted to join the Miami Dolphins for the upcoming season, as reported by Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network. The contract, a one-year deal, is valued at up to $8.25 million, a figure that reflects Beckham’s decision to accept a lower offer than what was available from other teams, in favor of what he believes is a more suitable team fit.
Beckham’s choice to sign with the Dolphins was highlighted by Rapoport on Twitter, noting the receiver’s preference for the Dolphins’ setup over potentially higher offers. Pelissero echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Beckham’s desire for the right team environment over a bigger paycheck.
Last season, Beckham showcased his skills with the Baltimore Ravens, participating in 14 regular-season games, securing 35 receptions, and scoring three touchdowns. Despite not reaching Pro Bowl status as he did in his early career with the New York Giants, Beckham impressed with an average of 16.1 yards per catch, the eighth-highest in the league and a notable achievement especially in comparison to his new teammate, Tyreek Hill.
This performance was particularly remarkable considering Beckham’s comeback from a torn ACL incurred during the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, marking his second ACL injury since 2020.
While the expectation for Beckham to return to his superstar days may have dimmed, his role as a third option behind Hill and Jaylen Waddle in coach Mike McDaniel’s offensive scheme promises to be impactful. The Dolphins, who led the NFL in passing and total yards last season before a playoff exit in Kansas City, will certainly benefit from Beckham’s talent and experience as they aim to build on their offensive prowess.
