Odell Beckham Jr. is heading to the Miami Dolphins, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport have confirmed. The deal Beckham has signed on for is a one-year contract valued at up to $8.25 million.
Of this, only $3 million is guaranteed base salary, as per various sources. Interestingly, Rapoport revealed that Beckham had more generous offers on the table but opted for what he felt was the best fit in Miami.
The buzz around Beckham’s move to the Dolphins has been building for some time. Back in March, the star receiver met with the team, prompting head coach Mike McDaniel to hint that an offer was on the table. Although Beckham downplayed comments from Tyreek Hill teasing the move on social media, and Dolphins general manager Chris Grier previously stating that a deal wasn’t close, speculation continued to mount.
Beckham’s career has taken him from an illustrious start with the New York Giants, where he earned Pro Bowl honors in his first three NFL seasons, to spells with the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Rams. His time with the Rams was cut short by an ACL injury during their Super Bowl LVI triumph, causing him to miss the entire following season. Beckham made a comeback with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, recording 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns across the season.
The addition of Beckham to Miami adds significant depth to a receiving corps that already boasts stars like Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The Dolphins have been in search of a reliable third receiving option; tight end Durham Smythe was the team’s third highest receiver in 2023 with just 366 yards. Although Miami added rookies Malik Washington and Tahj Washington in the later rounds of the 2024 NFL draft, Beckham’s track record and experience provide an immediate upgrade.
Beckham’s choice to join the Dolphins signifies his desire for a team where he believes he can make an impact, rounding out a potentially formidable receiving trio for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. With this signing, Miami’s offense looks to be even more dynamic in the upcoming season.
