After an impressive season that catapulted him to his first Pro Bowl appearance, Miami Dolphins’ running back Raheem Mostert finds himself sharing the backfield with the promising rookie De’Von Achane.
Reflecting on the team’s decision to bring in new talent, Mostert shared during a Zoom meeting, “Initially, my thoughts were pretty much ‘Here we go again with the draft drama.’ But genuinely, I’m thrilled.
Having Jaylen join us, adding another talented player named Jaylen to our roster, is exciting. I’m eager to mentor him, integrate him into our offensive strategy, and see what magic he can bring.”
The Dolphins are renowned for their emphasis on speed, a quality that Mostert and Achane, alongside wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, collectively harness to arguably form the fastest group of skill-position players the NFL has ever seen.
“The addition of more speed is always welcome,” commented Mostert. “In our offensive scheme, we thrive by leveraging various skills, and speed is undoubtedly our preferred tool.
Introducing another player with standout speed into our lineup means we can innovate even further with our play-calling. Imagine deploying three running backs simultaneously, alongside a receiver and a tight end.
The possibilities are endless.”
Despite the influx of talent and speed, Mostert is poised to remain a centerpiece in the Dolphins’ offensive playbook.
With the challenge of integrating rookie Wright without diluting Mostert’s impact, Head Coach Mike McDaniel faces the delicate task of harnessing the collective speed of his team. Mostert, coming off a season setting Dolphins’ records in both rushing and total touchdowns and exceeding 1,000 rushing yards, is undeniably central to the team’s offensive strategy. Following his standout year, Mostert secured a contract extension with $3.7 million guaranteed, as reported by overthecap.com, though his financial security beyond this season remains uncertain.
Focused on the future and unfazed by the common perception of decline for running backs entering their 30s, Mostert is determined to defy expectations. “There’s a narrative about running backs slowing down at my age, but I spent the early part of my career without much wear and tear. I’m ready to challenge that narrative head-on, continue performing at my peak, contribute to my team, and chase after that championship,” Mostert affirmed.
