Once that drops, fans will know all 17 games for the Dolphins throughout the 18-week regular season.
New England was the worst team in the AFC East last season, earning the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Patriots drafted young quarterback Drake Maye, and they’re hoping that he can eventually bring the franchise back to the top of the NFL, where it was for quite some time under Tom Brady and Bill Belichick’s leadership.
During the 2023 season, Miami went a perfect 2-0 against the Patriots, winning 24-17 in New England on Sept. 17 and 31-17 on Oct. 29 in Miami.
Even if Maye plays well, this could be a favorable game in the final week of the regular season compared to Miami’s Week 18 matchup in the 2023 season.
In the last week of the 2023 season, the Dolphins played the Buffalo Bills with the AFC East division title on the line. The Dolphins came up short in that game, dropping to a wild card spot.
That led to Miami matching up with the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs, and it was promptly eliminated in an awful offensive performance (the Dolphins scored just seven points) in frigid temperatures at Arrowhead Stadium.
Unless Maye – or veteran Jacoby Brissett – has a great season for the Patriots, it’s likely that facing New England in Week 18 will be an easier matchup than having to take on Josh Allen and the Bills or even Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.
The Dolphins are hoping to get back to the playoffs in the 2024 season for the third time in as many seasons under head coach Mike McDaniel. Miami has yet to win a playoff game under McDaniel, playing as a wild card team in each of the last two seasons.
