The Derrick Henry NFL free agency sweepstakes is rapidly approaching, and the Baltimore Ravens are among the teams chiefly involved in rumors connected to the running back’s next landing spot. One reason the Ravens are rumored as such is that they only have three running backs with contracts for the 2024 season: Justice Hill, Keaton Mitchell, and Owen Wright (via Spotrac).
The need for a true No. 1 running back was reiterated by Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
“It’s up in the air,” Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said referring to his team’s running back room (via Jamison Hensley of ESPN).
“We don’t have a lot of guys under contract right now,” Harbaugh added.
Derrick Henry To The Baltimore Ravens?
In 2023, Gus Edwards was the top running back in terms of production on the ground for the Ravens, but together with JK Dobbins, he’s set to become a free agent. Mitchell is still with the team, but he suffered a devastating knee injury in December. Last season, the Ravens, thanks in large part to Edwards and Lamar Jackson, Baltimore finished No. 1 overall in the league with 156.4 rushing yards per game. But with so much doubt in the RB room at the moment, it’s difficult to expect that the Ravens will be the top-rushing squad again in 2024. That notion will definitely change if they land someone like Henry.
Although Henry just turned 30 and already has a ton of mileage in his body after several years of being the bell cow of the Tennessee Titans’ rushing attack, he can still be a very dangerous weapon when added to a team like the Ravens, who are already loaded with talented players on offense.
