Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill spoke highly of quarterback Tyler Huntley as Miami’s upcoming matchup against the Tennessee Titans on Monday looms.
“I’ve been watching film of him since he’s got here, I’m like, ‘This dude can make every throw,’” Hill said. “‘This dude is special with his legs.’ He’s a special talent. The only thing — we’ve got a lot of things that go into this offense. We got motions, we’ve got getting the play out before, so he’s done a good job of staying in the film room learning all of that stuff.”
Huntley will start for Miami at the quarterback position against the Titans in what will also mark his Dolphins debut.
Hill is likely hoping that Huntley will star in his first start of the season, as the 30-year-old hasn’t been dominant from a receiving standpoint in recent weeks. The only game so far this season where he’s managed to rack up 100-plus receiving yards came in the Dolphins’ season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and that was before Tua Tagovailoa got injured.
The former Kansas City Chiefs star averaged a league-high 112.4 receiving yards per game during the 2023 regular season, and yet he has totaled only 64 receiving yards in Miami’s two most recent games combined. He finished with only 24 receiving yards on three receptions against the Buffalo Bills and followed up that performance by racking up 40 receiving yards in the Dolphins’ blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Huntley stands out as the practical choice to get the start at quarterback when considering the injuries impacting some of Miami’s other players at the position. Tagovailoa is on injured reserve with a concussion, and Sklyar Thompson is dealing with a chest injury that he suffered in his start against the Seahawks.
Tim Boyle may not be injured right now, but Huntley has the edge over him in terms of experience. The former has started just five games in his NFL career, while the latter has accumulated nine starts during his time in the NFL.
Huntley started four games for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2021 regular season and another four in the 2022 regular season. He didn’t see the field much in his last season in Baltimore, though, considering he logged just five appearances and one start in the 2023 regular season.
Dolphins fans should be confident that Huntley has the skill set necessary to step in and give the team solid production against the Titans after Hill’s comments.
