The Kansas City Chiefs have been active in adjusting their roster following the 2024 NFL Draft. This past weekend, they added undrafted free-agent wide receiver Reggie Brown, but he was released from the team less than two days later.
Brown, who played for James Madison University, was quickly let go despite initially being signed by the Chiefs. Jaaron Hayek, another undrafted wide receiver, attended the team’s minicamp as a tryout and was subsequently signed by Kansas City on Tuesday.

Former Villanova player Hayek, who was not selected in the draft, excelled in college with 170 catches, 2,744 yards, and 29 touchdowns over five seasons. Reggie Brown, a former Chiefs wide receiver, had a breakout senior year at James Madison with 53 receptions, 1,054 yards, and nine touchdowns.
Despite facing challenges, Brown had a good chance to compete for a spot on the Chiefs’ roster or practice squad due to their limited depth at wide receiver and only drafting one wideout. In the previous season, Brown had 53 catches, 1,055 yards, and nine touchdowns, leading the team in touchdowns.
Following his release, Brown is seeking a minicamp tryout with another team. The Kansas City Chiefs are optimistic about their new wide receiver drafted in the recent NFL draft.
Kansas City selected wide receiver Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft to provide quarterback Patrick Mahomes with a top-tier deep threat. Worthy has the opportunity to step into the role previously held by Tyreek Hill, who was traded by the team two years ago. Coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories, the Chiefs are aiming to make NFL history by becoming the first team to win three consecutive championships.
