The Miami Dolphins expanded their receiving corps by selecting Malik Washington, a dynamic wide receiver from Virginia, with the 184th pick in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Before joining Virginia for his final collegiate season, Washington showcased his talents at Northwestern. His standout season with the Cavaliers featured an impressive stat line of 110 receptions for 1,426 yards and nine touchdowns, marking him as one of the most productive receivers in college football last year.
Standing at 5’9 and weighing 191 pounds, Washington may not be the tallest player among the Dolphins’ receivers, but he brings a noteworthy blend of speed and agility to the squad. His 4.47 40-yard dash time combined with a 42.5-inch vertical leap suggests he’ll add an explosive element to Miami’s offense.
Miami has been in search of reliable targets to complement their top receivers, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. With the team’s tight end, Durham Smythe, being the third top receiver last season with only 366 yards, the addition of Washington might just be the solution the Dolphins have been looking for.
Washington is the fifth addition to the Dolphins through the 2024 draft, following selections that included pass rusher Chop Robinson, offensive tackle Patrick Paul, running back Jaylen Wright, and another pass rusher, Mohamed Kamara.
Following the acquisition of Washington, the Dolphins are poised to make two more picks in the draft, holding one selection in both the sixth and seventh rounds. Their upcoming pick is scheduled to be the 198th overall. Miami’s draft strategy this year seems focused on bolstering both their offensive and defensive rosters, with hopes that their latest wide receiver will make an immediate impact on the field.
