The Miami Dolphins are considering a reunion with Emmanuel Ogbah, the accomplished pass rusher whom they released earlier this year. NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reports that Ogbah is set to have a workout with the team on Monday.
This potential move comes as the Dolphins grapple with a sudden shortage in their defensive lineup following the unexpected retirement of Shaquil Barrett, who had just recently joined the team. Adding to the defensive challenges, both Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips are starting training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list due to ongoing recoveries from their injuries that cut short their 2023 season.
Ogbah, 30, initially signed with the Dolphins in 2020 and quickly proved his worth, notching nine sacks in each of his first two seasons. However, after the departure of coach Brian Flores and the rising prominence of Phillips coupled with the acquisition of Chubb, Ogbah’s contributions dwindled, accumulating only 6.5 sacks over his last two seasons.
Despite the drop in his statistical performance, with Chubb and Phillips yet to return to full health, and rookies Chop Robinson and Mohamed Kamara being the next options, Ogbah’s experience could be invaluable. His familiarity with the Dolphins and his proven track record may make him a compelling addition to defensive coordinator Anthony Stapleton’s scheme as the team looks to bolster their pass rush capabilities.
