Former Miami Dolphins left tackle Richmond Webb is among five players with South Florida connections whose candidacy for the Pro Football Hall of Fame reached the semifinalist stage, the Hall announced Wednesday.
Among the 25 modern-era players still under consideration are receiver Anquan Boldin of Suncoast High, running back Fred Taylor of Glades Central, receiver Reggie Wayne of the University of Miami and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork of Santaluces.
Webb was a first-round pick of the Dolphins in 1990 and played with Miami until 2000, usually serving as Dan Marino’s primary protector. Webb finished his career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Not making the cut this time was cornerback Troy Vincent, who began his career as a Dolphins’ first-round draft pick.
The list of semifinalists was reduced from an initial group of 167 nominees announced in September. The next step in the modern-era category will be a cut to 15 finalists late this year.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 will be announced at NFL Honors in New Orleans during Super Bowl week and enshrined in August in Canton.
