The Miami Dolphins unveiled plans on Wednesday for “Throwback Thursdays” during this NFL season, featuring two games where they will don vintage uniforms. To the delight of fans nostalgic for the team’s old-school look, Miami will sport these retro outfits for both of their Thursday night matchups.
This season, the first occasion will be a home game on September 12th against the Buffalo Bills. For this game, the Dolphins are set to wear aqua jerseys paired with white pants. The second instance will occur on Thanksgiving Day during an away game at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, where the Dolphins will switch to their classic all-white ensemble.
Remarkably, the white throwback uniforms hark back to the Dolphins’ inaugural season in 1966 and were worn up through their 1973 Super Bowl triumph. Although typically reserved for home games, Miami has previously worn throwback gear on the road, most notably during a 2003 Thanksgiving Day victory over Dallas.
Last season saw the Dolphins donning their aqua throwbacks for two home games – a late October clash with the New England Patriots and a Christmas Eve game against the Dallas Cowboys, with Miami securing wins in both.
Despite some fans expressing a preference for the throwbacks, as noted by a petition on Change.org, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has shown a fondness for the team’s regular attire. The Dolphins have been wearing their current uniform style since 2013, following a redesign initiated by Ross.
