The Miami Dolphins have resolved one of their most significant preseason uncertainties, but the outcome may disappoint fans: Odell Beckham Jr. will begin the regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. This development was announced by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport just before the 4 p.m. deadline on Tuesday, when NFL teams must finalize their 53-player rosters.
Beckham, who has been sidelined by an unspecified injury, has not participated in any of the Dolphins’ offseason or training camp activities. As a result of being placed on the PUP list, he will miss at least the first four games of the season. However, following this period, he can begin practicing and the Dolphins will have a three-week window to activate him on their roster.
Beckham is now one of four Dolphins players starting the season on the PUP list, joining teammates Bradley Chubb, Isaiah Wynn, and Cameron Goode. Initially anticipated to be a key third option at wide receiver behind stars Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Beckham’s ability to contribute is on hold for now.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa expressed the importance of building on-field chemistry with Beckham. “It’s very important. Off the field, I’ve spent quite a bit of time with him and he’s a great guy,” Tagovailoa said. “But whether that translates into a solid connection during games, I can’t say yet since we haven’t practiced together. If Odell is cleared from the PUP list, then connecting with him on the field is one of my top priorities.”
