The highly-anticipated Hobbs and Shaw
The Fast & Furious spin-off – which features Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw – will hope to kick off a new franchise through a “grounded” approach, according to its director David Leitch.
And new images captured from the film’s set show Statham in character mode, although there’s no sign yet of either The Rock or Idris Elba’s mysterious villain.
The Rock today (September 10) marked Hobbs and Shaw‘s first day of filming with a celebratory Instagram post as he gets ready to join the cast and crew.
The caption explains: “DAY 1 and the evolution has officially begun.Long awaited Fast & Furious spin-off movie, #HobbsAndShaw is electric. My partner in heavy crime & fun @jasonstatham is lookin’ like $1million bucks and holdin’ it all down. Our visionary & bad ass director @davidmleitch (just directed Deadpool2) at the helm and ready to evolve the franchise in exciting and fresh new ways.
“And as always, our @sevenbucksprodpresident @hhgarcia41 capturing the dopest images thru his lens. Keep crushing on that set boys… the man known as “HOBBS” will touch down in London in two weeks. Pancakes, tequila and ass kickin’s on me. #Day1#TheEvolution#HobbsAndShaw”
Previously, Deadpool 2‘s Leitch reflected on how the team want to approach the material, telling Digital Spy: “There’s obviously some of the DNA of the Fast universe, but what we really want to do is create something fresh and different for these characters, and dive into their world.
“Hobbs and Shaw come from the agent-and-spy world. It’s obviously about their banter and their relationship, but it’s more about expanding their world and their connections, and creating a family in a slightly different universe. It’s going to be fun.”
