The Argentine superstar is in big trouble after voluntarily traveling to Saudi Arabia with his family, just hours after PSG lost 1-3 to Lorient in Ligue 1 on April 31.
Notably, the owner of 7 Golden Balls went to Saudi Arabia without the permission of the PSG host team. Moreover, Monday May 1 is not a holiday for the Paris team.
Because of this, the 36-year-old striker was suspended by PSG for 2 weeks. Hundreds of PSG fans on May 3 also gathered at the he adquarters of the home team at the Park of the Princes to protest against Messi.
In that context, Lionel Messi has just apologized to his teammates as well as the PSG host club for his actions.
The apology was clipped by the Argentine superstar and posted on his personal Instagram page.
In the video, Messi explains that, normally after each match, the team will give the players a break. However, because PSG lost to Lorient, the coach suddenly summoned the team, making him unable to react.
The former Barca captain also said that his departure to Saudi Arabia was scheduled in advance and “cannot be canceled”. He came to play the role of tourism ambassador for Saudi Arabia and also to help the country campaign to host the 2030 World Cup.
“At that time I thought we would have the day off after the game as usual. It was a scheduled trip and I couldn’t cancel because I’ve already canceled once. I would like to apologize to my teammates and the PSG host team. I am ready to accept all the penalties of the club,” Messi emphasized.
Lionel Messi’s contract with PSG is only until the end of this June, but the two sides have not yet renewed.
European media confirmed that, with what is happening, Messi will definitely leave the French team as a free agent in the next summer transfer window.
