On Super Bowl Sunday, Joe Biden didn’t get an endorsement from Taylor Swift. Instead, her boyfriend Travis Kelce is getting into some interesting stuff. He’s using President Biden’s renewable energy tax credits to bankroll his new movie “My Dead Friend Zoe.”
Kelce is set to come back for another NFL season with the Chiefs, aiming for that third Super Bowl win. But he’s also dipping his toes into Hollywood. It’s a move we’ve seen before with Tom Brady, who’s been making appearances in movies like “80 for Brady” and even producing.
Travis Kelce is making his big-screen debut with an indie film called “My Dead Friend Zoe,” which is headed to SXSW. It’s quite a departure for the Chiefs TE, who’s taking on the role of executive producer for the first time. The movie, a low-budget dark comedy costing less than $10 million, features a star-studded cast including Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Ed Harris, and Morgan Freeman. What’s interesting is that Kelce and other investors are taking advantage of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act to finance the film, making them pioneers in this approach.
“My Dead Friend Zoe” tells the story of a female Afghanistan veteran navigating relationships with her deceased Army best friend and estranged Vietnam veteran grandfather. With its themes of friendship, family, loss, and humor, the film draws from the personal experiences of its writer and director, Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, who served in the U.S. Army for five years, earning a Bronze Star in Iraq.

But as mentioned before, it’s not really unusual for sports stars to branch out into the entertainment industry. LeBron James is also a pioneer in that regard.
LeBron James’ forays into the entertainment industry
He is undoubtedly one of the greatest basketball players of all time. But he’s also making waves behind the scenes in the world of film, television, internet content, and video games. LeBron has made appearances in movies like “Trainwreck” and “Smallfoot,” as well as some pretty impressive commercials. But what you might not know is that he’s a prolific producer too.
In fact, he co-founded a production company called SpringHill Entertainment with his manager Maverick Carter back in 2013. Named after the Akron, Ohio apartment complex where LeBron and his mom lived, SpringHill Entertainment has been behind some noteworthy projects. These include the Netflix series “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C. J. Walker,” starring Octavia Spencer. According to LeBron, this series is not just important for the African American community, but for American history as well.
As we eagerly await the release of “Space Jam 2,” it’s not just about entertainment for him—it’s about telling important stories and making an impact.
