Tyreek Hill exuded a sense of calm as he discussed last weekend’s achievements, including topping the Top 100 list and updating his contract on Tuesday. However, he’s quite aware and appreciative of the weight that his role carries with the Miami Dolphins, and he’s eager to push for further accomplishments.
“It might seem odd, but I didn’t celebrate,” Hill shared during a press briefing following the Dolphins’ joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons. “I told my family that they’re so used to my successes that celebrations aren’t necessary anymore. We just acknowledge and move on, even with milestones like these. But I did have a small celebration over dinner with my wife and grandparents who came to town.”
Hill, delighted by a lucrative contract extension guaranteeing him $65 million over three years, reflected on his journey and ambitions. “Back in 2017, I stated I’d become the No. 1 player, which shows my drive. I continuously strive to improve—that’s essential to surviving in the NFL,” he remarked. Hill also expressed gratitude towards his coach, Mike McDaniel, and team members including Chris Grier, Steven Ross, and Tua Tagovailoa, acknowledging their roles in his growth as a player. “I’m truly thankful and won’t take any of this for granted.”
With newfound financial security, Hill understands the heightened expectations and responsibilities he shares with teammates like Tua and Jaylen Waddle. They’re tasked with propelling the Dolphins’ passing game to new heights, especially against formidable playoff-bound rivals.
“The money isn’t our focus; the real drive is the game,” Hill stated. “We have a strong competitive team full of leadership, which fuels our determination to win. We see this every day, and the energy at practice is incredible.”
Despite individual accolades, including two team MVP titles, All-Pro selections, and leading the NFL in receiving yards, Hill has yet to help his team secure a playoff victory, a milestone the Dolphins haven’t achieved since 2000. That’s the next frontier Hill aims to conquer.
“Right now, I want to help bring a playoff win to this team,” Hill concluded. “That first playoff victory is a stepping stone I believe we can use to propel deeper into the playoffs. Achieving that would be a legacy moment for all of us, something to reminisce about for decades to come.”
