Albert Wilson, the former Miami Dolphins wide receiver, has declared his retirement from professional football. In an emotional social media post on Friday evening, Wilson expressed his gratitude towards the Dolphins organization, which brought him back to his home state of Florida in 2018.
In his heartfelt message, Wilson acknowledged the impact that playing for the Dolphins had on his life and the lives of his family members. “To the Miami Dolphins Organization, I want to thank you for changing my family’s life forever and giving me the opportunity to come play in my home state in front of family, friends and the youth in my community,” he shared.
He also highlighted the significance of being a positive figure in his community during challenging times. Wilson enthusiastically mentioned his new role post-retirement, expressing excitement towards becoming a “Stay at Home DAD!!!”
Wilson, who is 31 years of age, embarked on his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014. Over four seasons with the Chiefs, he made significant contributions, catching 124 passes for 1,544 yards and notching seven touchdowns.
His move to the Miami Dolphins in the 2018 offseason was a homecoming of sorts for the Port St. Lucie native, securing him a three-year contract.
During his tenure with the Dolphins, Wilson delivered memorable performances, amassing 742 receiving yards and securing five touchdowns, in addition to throwing a 52-yard touchdown pass. One of his standout moments came in a 2018 game against the Chicago Bears, where he achieved 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his prowess on the field.
Wilson’s NFL career faced uncertainties when he opted out of the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He made a return in 2021, although with reduced productivity, recording 25 receptions for 213 yards. Following brief engagements with the Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, Wilson found himself without a team throughout 2023, leading to his retirement decision.
As the football community reflects on Albert Wilson’s career, his announcement marks the end of an inspiring journey from an undrafted rookie to a cherished figure in the Miami Dolphins. Wilson walks away from the gridiron ready to embrace the joys and challenges of fatherhood, leaving behind a legacy that extends beyond his on-field achievements.
