The Miami Dolphins dodged a bullet in free agency when their left tackle, Terron Armstead, announced that he would return for the 2024 season.
Armstead returning to the Dolphins matters because the team doesn’t have to use their first-round pick on a tackle and can use their first-round pick on a position of need.
Another reason why Armstead’s return matters is because the team re-signed their reliable swing tackle to an extension.
The Miami Dolphins re-signed their swing tackle to an extension.
According to Barry Jackson, the Dolphins re-signed Kendall Lamm to a one-year deal.
Lamm will be in his 10th year in the NFL and has blossomed into a reliable swing tackle, playing in 104 career games and starting 37.
Kendall Lamm started in one game with the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
The Detroit Lions signed Lamm to a contract on August 8, but the team released him on August 30.
The Dolphins signed Lamm to the practice squad on November 28, and the team promoted him to the active roster on December 31.
Lamm started in Week 17 for the injured Armstead and had zero penalties, zero sacks allowed, and a 67.0 PFF Grade in 32 offensive snaps. He exited the game with an ankle injury and missed the last two games.
Kendall Lamm protected Tua Tagovailoa for eight games in 2023.
Tennessee Titans linebacker Harold Landry III (58) sacks Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (1) late in the game on fourth down to seal the game for the Titans at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Dec. 11, 2023.
Lamm started seven games at LT (Weeks 1-2, 5-8, and 14) and one at RT (Week 16). He had zero penalties, four sacks allowed, and a 64.3 PFF Grade in 613 (56%) offensive snaps in 17 games and eight starts.

Lamm battled a back injury in November but managed to play in every game last season, and McDaniel praised him for his toughness.
“I’m very optimistic because of who he is,” McDaniel said when asked about Lamm’s status on Monday. “You want to talk about an absolute warrior that has become such a big fixture in our locker room and is so important to us winning and losing football games. He proved it to even be able to be of strong service to us (Friday).”
