Chop Robinson, the dynamic edge rusher out of Penn State, is swiftly adapting to the increased pace of the NFL, a stark contrast from his college days. Having been celebrated for his electrifying performances in college, the transition has highlighted a significant speed differential at the professional level for Robinson.
“In college, you’re often up against slower offensive linemen and tight ends,” Robinson shared earlier this week. “But here, in the NFL, you’re facing off against linemen who are significantly faster, not to mention the speed of the quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs. Everything on offense just shifts to a higher gear, which means I have to as well.”
At 6-foot-3, 260 pounds, and clocking a remarkable 4.48 in the 40-yard dash, Robinson’s athleticism and explosive power stood out, making him one of the most talked-about prospects during the draft. His college career was highlighted by descriptions such as “athletic” and “explosive,” with his performance metrics setting him apart among his draft class peers.
Fully aware of the Miami Dolphins’ reputation as the swiftest team in the league, Robinson is keen on learning from the best. He looks up to the Dolphins’ offense, especially stars like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, along with offensive lineman Terron Armstead.
“Growing up and watching these guys play, and now being on the same team as them is incredible,” Robinson expressed. “It’s all about watching their routines, seeing how they improve daily, and just following their lead to better my game.”
Robinson is committed to his coaches’ advice, aiming to improve “1 percent” better each day. The opportunity to practice against the Dolphins’ formidable offense is an invaluable experience for him, particularly in refining his approach to the game.
He emphasized the importance of not getting overwhelmed by the opponents’ backfield movements. “With an offense like ours, overthinking can lead to confusion. So, it’s essential to stick to your man, focus on your key responsibilities, and not overburden yourself with too much information,” Robinson stated.
As Robinson continues to adjust and learn in his rookie season, his focus on speed, agility, and the finer details of his position underlines his potential to become a key player for the Dolphins in the near future.
