There’s no better fit for Vin Diesel’s career after Fast & Furious than taking over The Expendables franchise, especially if he brings The Rock with him. After two decades of being at the center of one of the biggest franchises in history as well as starring in several other successful films, Vin Diesel doesn’t necessarily have to worry about the future. Still, it would be interesting for the actor and his fans if he joined another action franchise that can live up to his days as Dominic Toretto in Fast & Furious and Xander Cage in xXx.
Despite the running joke that Fast & Furious would never end, Fast 10 and Fast 11 are expected to close the franchise in a two-part finale type of story. While Fast & Furious could continue without Vin Diesel, Fast 10 and 11 will most likely be the farewell to Dominic Toretto and his family. Since Vin Diesel will have a lot of free time on his hands now, it’s not too far-fetched to imagine that the actor could start a new franchise or join an existing one.
If Vin Diesel were to join an existing action franchise, then The Expendables would be the best choice. In the same way that Sylvester Stallone put together a line-up of some of the biggest action stars of the 80s in The Expendables, Vin Diesel could join the franchise and bring with him some other big names from the last 10 or 20 years. Vin Diesel may not be today’s equivalent of Stallone, but he’s the best fit to helm some sort of soft-reboot or straight-up sequel to The Expendables after the fourth movie. That would also be the perfect opportunity for Vin Diesel to make a joke out of his feud with The Rock and team up with the actor once again. Diesel could invite Dwayne for a co-lead role similar to the way that Dolph Lundgren joined the Stallone movies or he could even play a villain as Jean-Claude Van Damme did in The Expendables 2.
Vin Diesel would also be the much-needed bit of fresh air for the Expendables franchise if it wants to continue past The Expendables 4. The fact that a fourth film itself is happening surprised many considering the box-office failure of The Expendables 3 and all the time that went by without any news on the franchise. Names like Vin Diesel and The Rock could perfectly carry on the original concept of the franchise while also bringing new energy and attracting a new audience. Granted, that wouldn’t be such an easy transition as The Expendables saga is currently led by none other than Sylvester Stallone.
Vin Diesel joining The Expendables after Fast & Furious and bringing The Rock with him would be perfect not only for the actor but for the franchise as well. All of this would be a great way for the ’80s action stars to hand over the baton to a new generation and restart the Expendables film series with a fresh take. More than anything, it would be extremely entertaining to see Vin Diesel and The Rock sharing the screen in a movie as fun and cheesy as The Expendables.
